KUALA LUMPUR: It was a hair-pulling experience for a teenager who wanted to study hair design at a private college.

When Tian Wei Shin, 18, enrolled for the course on March 14, he was to join the second intake.

Instead, he was put together with students of the first intake which commenced a month earlier.

Tian claimed that the course did not go smoothly as there were no teachers on many occasions.

The last straw for Tian came during the first month of the second semester.

Not only were many classes cancelled, one particular subject even had four different teachers over a two-week period, he claimed.

Tian said one of the teachers had repeated what was taught the previous day.

Tian, who had paid RM8,690 in first semester fees, filed a claim at the Consumer Claims Tribunal against LimKokWing University College of Creative Technology.

The institute's senior vice-president (corporate) Wong Yeng Hoong told the tribunal that it was a normal practice for most private schools to accept students into a particular intake up to four weeks after its commencement.

Tribunal president Hussain Mohamed Dewa ordered the institute to return RM2,813, including the deposit, to Tian.

Preparing for overseas studies?

Surprise! My first contribution post. Heck, I wasn't even aware I was added as a 'contributor' until recently. Thank you.

Many (if not all) of you don't know who I am. Well a quick background check if I may. I'm a graduate from our beloved LUCT. Studied there for 4 years - 3 in Mayang campus and the first year of the new campus in Cyberjaya. I graduated with a meager diploma in Interactive Multimedia Design (IMD) and transfered to Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.

To be honest, I really had a long post written out about LUCT, but I decided it's probrably the same crap you hear every day going through the channels in LUCT. So I'll abstain from ranting and sounding like and old fart. Instead, I'll give some advise for those preparing to study overseas at the end of the current semester. First of all, do not waste time in applying for your credit transfers and application for student Visa. Go to NextGen and tell them you're interested as soon as possible. After that, bug them about it every day. Also, bug the admin to release the final results early. Keep bugging them, no matter what. Get your parents to threathen to sue, whatever works. NextGen or some sources may tell you that the Visa application process only takes a few days. This is false.

At the end of my final semester, announcements will be made that STA Travel (or some other travel agency) will be coming on campus to give out student travel promotions for those wanting to twin or advance in their courses overseas (STA Travel is an awesome agency and is highly effective at what they do. I had no trouble with them in aquiring plane tickets at all). Just take a broschure and filled it out and send it back as instructed. Then comes the application for the University. Fill out the application form and have NextGen fax it over so that my application can be processed. This is the important part: if you are transfering credits, the overseas Uni will want to see ALL the results for your course. This excludes 'foundation' year, so you probrably have to submit 4 result slips to NextGen to fax to your respective university. If you don't have your results with you at home, you'll have to get the Admin to reprint your results (at a price, naturally) and this will some time! So get your results printed out before hand to save the trouble. Oh and remember to have them certified (just get it stamped and signed from some official at the registry.)

Once your application to your overseas uni is accepted, they'll send an official form which basically grants you education at the Uni. This form (it is known as 'Confirmation of Enrolment' or CoE in Australia) is required when you apply for a Visa. This also can take a while (up to a week.) The one I recieved was valid for about one month, if I'm not mistaken. Which means you have 1 month to apply for your visa using the CoE form. Once the form is expired, it is not a valid document anymore. So once again, be quick about it. NextGen will give you a list of 'official' clinics and hospitals around KL for you to do your Medical Check up. Though if you know of a clinic or hospital in your hometown which is registered to the international education sector, feel free to go for that if it's more convenient, but to be honest, I highly advise (if you're heading to Australia) you to go to the one in KL city centre, next to the Australian Embassy. They'll process your medical results and submit them to the embassy for you, all within a period of 2 to 3 days. Pretty handy. You'll also need confirmation of Overseas Health Insurance to apply for the Visa, but your destination University should have already covered that for you. So no worries there. Just make sure you pay the proper amount and stuff.

Process of Visa can take up a 1 month! Even more if you're unlucky. (like me) If you're lucky, it can be done and ready for you in a week. But always be prepared for the worst. Once your visa is processed and you have your plane tickets ready. Kiss your mummy and daddy goodbye and enjoy life overseas, wherever your destination is.

(Note that I had just finished my compulsary internship required in order to graduate from LUCT as well at the time)

I have come across many tutorials on Photoshop fire effects, which is sad to say to be very disappointing. I'm not saying that these tutorials are not only flexible, but the special effect is unrealistic to the extend that it looks like a 6 years old colouring. Then one day out of the blues I stumble upon this website that teaches the fire techniqu, it was more realistic than I had hoped for. It can be used to start a fire on almost any image.

" This sequence employs a great, hidden, feature of Liquify that allows you to save and load a distortion mesh. With this enhancement Liquify becomes a much more functional distortion tool that offers multiple levels of control that would not be available without it. The fire distortion can take a little practice so you may want to start with a single letter before you attempt a more complex image like the one I created here. "

Dumbstruck by Limkokwing Uni-College Lecturer

I was reading some blogs by limkokwing's student and I stumble upon an interesting article that caught my attention. The blogger mention that she was surprise by the attitude of certain lecturers that has no respect for the student. I’ve quoted a few lines from her blog, here goes:

" Then during the presentation, as the presentation touches on woman exhibits their body, he went searching for girls whom wear low cut jeans to see if their undergarments are reveal out. It was still okay, UNTIL the point, where he lifts one of the girl's shirts up (back portion) until the back chest level. Right away, I was disgust by it. How inappropriate and unethical! Although we, the students, sometimes dress sexily, but it does not mean, we are okay that you lift our shirt up to prove a point! In addition, he said the girl wasn't wearing her undergarment and when the girl says yes, he said, shows us. OMG! "

Knowing this is the month of ramandan, we should respect other people's culture, but respect should be earn. Does this mean that during Deepavali every Malaysian should stop consuming beef and should go vegitarian during Thaipusam. Its a multi-racial country, you can't force everyone to please everyone. The student has the right to wear as short as she likes and that is her problem, unless she steps into a holy place like church, temple or mosque, only then you have the right to comment, until then its between her and her parents, not the lecturer's duty to educate her.

Was browsing limkokwing's website and came across the faq section, I couldn't help myself but to blog about this. I'm not saying that whatever they wrote are full of bullshits, it's just that they are playing around with words. I've copied and pasted a few Q&A from the FAQ that seems to be a little bit misleading. Do leave your comment! one more thing, please prepare an oxygen tank, just in case.....

Q: Are all Limkokwing programmes approved by LAN?Can you prove that you are a university college?
A: Yes all Limkokwing programmes are approved by LAN. New programmes are introduced by Limkokwing all the time; therefore at any one time, there may be programmes awaiting LAN's approval or are in the process of being approved.

Students may check with our Academic Management Department for the latest status or the Ministry of Education's Private Education Section (JPS) for further clarification.

p.s. I surfed to LAN website and this is what I found? only eight subjects accredited, but if you surf to limkokwing's website and look at the number of courses they are offering right now, it seems that there are some mistakes.

Q: How many students are there in a class?
A: Average of 25 students

Q: What facilities do you offer at your campus?
A: We have a comprehensive library, the latest Apple workstations, top-range PCs, fully-equipped labs (Animation, Photo, Architecture, Animation, Communication, Design), an amphitheatre, a food plaza, an auditorium, a broadcasting studio and a club.

p.s. did they say "hi-tech facilities"? A lot of colleges allow their students to pay online, check their results online, download notes from school's server, use their smartcard for attendance and many more. Our smartcard is to make sure that we pay our school fees or else we won't get to enter the library and lab, gosh* we can't even borrow books from the library with the smartcard.

A: A university college is a former college that has just been granted licence to operate as a university

Malaysian Idol 2

Malaysian idol is over by now, but this curiosity of mine kept telling me that is farah an ex-limkokwing student? I suspected something when she was invited to sing a song in our campus. She was welcome with open arms by the management, saw it with my own eyes that some of the management people actually waited for her at the big bird. Now, if only everyone is as popular and famous as she is then they would have tilled the whole campus with italian marble. Anyway, while surfing the net, I manage to come across some pictures that caught my attention. Guess what, jac was here, the first malaysian idol. Kind of cool eh?

Not to say, I'm in my 'support Limkokwing student - Farah' mood but she did perform really good. Too bad she was voted out cos I thought the finals will be between Farah and Nita. The 'Orang Kampung' Faizul is good too but only when it comes to singing rock songs. So is Tricia, Atilia and Xera, good singers but was voted out abit too early. PUTRAJAYA: Two months ago, Iylia Farhana Rahman’s friends were those she went to school with at Felda Bukit Kepayang in Pahang.

Today, she can proudly claim to have many friends from different parts of the world.

The 20-year-old interior set and theatre design student from Limkokwing University College of Creative Technology said that as her circle of friends expanded, so did her knowledge and experience.

“I now know more about other races, their traditions and cultures. Initially, I was worried about not being able to adjust to this new life and environment. Now, I’m glad to have the opportunity to experience a new environment outside my Felda surroundings,” said the diploma student.

Iylia is among the pioneer batch of 481 Felda students called Generasi Baru attending a special education programme at the college.

Ibrahim Ismail Fikry, 20, said he was proud to be given the opportunity to give a speech in English in front of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and a large audience.

Najib had taken time off from his busy schedule yesterday to meet the Felda students and see how they were adapting after two months at the college.

In his speech, he threw a challenge to the students to be a part of the new economy and to use their creativity and skills to come up with new and innovative ideas and creations.

“It will be easy to open a grocery shop or a motorcycle repair shop at the settlement but that will not be challenging. The challenge will be to see children of Felda settlers create software for international corporations, animation for Hollywood movies and owners of branded items,” he said.

“We have taken you out of your familiar surroundings to transform your minds so that one day, there will be those among you who are leading figures in the new, exciting and dynamic economy.”

Najib said the concept behind the establishment of Felda was established to give land to the landless so they could have reasonable income. However, he said the future would not be about using one’s physical strength to toil the land but using the mind to create wealth and prosperity for themselves, the nation and community.

Image Extract Tutorial

After seeing loads of crap, poorly extracted images which is used by our beloved Mr Lim for his cheap publicity stunt, I decided to write down a detailed tutorial on image extraction;

Image Extract Tutorial (Using the pen tool)

Difficulty: Varied (depends on the image)
Program used: Adobe Photoshop 7 (applicable to later versions)

This is my first simple tutorial for those who are new to Photoshop. I'll make this one as detailed and simple(?) as possible. If the pic shown ain't clear, click on the thumbnail to view em full size.

1. Find an image. Here, I used the image of Milfuelle from the anime Galaxy Angels (thanks to Project Zen). Let's say I wanna make a wallpaper out of her but I don't want the background. So, I need to extract her from the whole pic. START!

2. In the layers pallete (bottom right position), double click it the 'Background' layer to open a dialogue.

3. Give a name to the layer. Here, I just name it as Layer 0.

4. You can use pen, lasso, eraser or magic wand for the extraction. Here, I use the pen tool (just shoot me).Zoom into the desired position and click on any position in the image for a starting point.

5. Beware, once you selected a starting point, a new layer will be created automatically. This is not the case for Photoshop 6 and below.

6. From the starting point, just follow the outline of the image. Like tracing a drawing.

7. Note: This is for Photoshop 7 and above users. Just skip this step if you're using version 6 or below.
But hold on a sec! See that black coloured filling? If you keep on going like this, the whole image will be covered
with black. It'll make things difficult, trust me. See the Opacity field in the layers palette? Reduce it to 0%. This way, the black filling will be rendered invisible. Then, just proceed with adding the anchor point at desired position along the character.

8. After you're done, connect to the starting point to close the path. Now, you see a a shape around the girl.

9. Click the Paths tab and click the dotted circle (labeled as load path as a selection). You'll see the dotted lines around the image.

10. Next, go to the Select menu and click Inverse. You'll see the dotted lines will appear around the background you want to get rid off. Select Layer 0 and hit the Delete key to remove the unwanted background.

11. See? The background is gone. Before you proceed further with the image (to make a wallpaper or whatever), make sure the extraction is done nicely. Use the eraser tool to delete those small unwanted pixel. Then, save it as a PSD (for future use) if you want to.

Okay, that's it for the extraction tutorial. Remember, you need lots of patience and practice to extract the perfect image. Have fun!

Wings of Creativity Book

Some call this book Wings of Creativity, while others call it the Big Black Book. I still remember that the lecturers force us to buy the book which eventually we never give in. How can the management force us to buy his book? I mean since it is so successful as he claim it to be, then why are there so many stock rejected by the dealer which eventually he has to force the students to purchase it.

I remember I saw it once in MPH bookshop and it was there at the book shelf, lying there with a layer of dust. My guest is that people are too lazy to go thru that huge book. Anyway, what kind of design book is that? black in colour only, design is suppose to be colourful, vibrant and so on.

Recalling what one graphic lecturer once said, he recommended the student to purchase the book because he thinks that it is a good book full of bad examples that the student can learn and not to repeat the same mistake. Take note that the book consist of works by limkokwing's company that came up with the Tak Nak advertisement, the National Service Uniforms and many government link projects.

I wonder if they still force the student to buy the book during registration for the new intake? Do enlighten me about the current situation. thanks.

Google earth was lauch few months ago and I was toying with it, and guess what. Its cool man, basically google has make every citizen of planet earth a 007 agent with their satelite spying features. The picture above is where the old campus is, miss those good old days. anyway, do download google earth and sorry folk, its kind of limited to certain part of malaysia, well you can always zoom into your hometown in some other state, but the clarity compare to zooming into KL is very obvious. *click on image for a larger view

Limkokwing Graduation Day

I swear that LimKokWing University (LUCT) is the most fcuk up Uni ever! The management there are horribly, terribly messy. Have you ever come across to a prestige, well - known University that messes up your whole study plan? Or a Uni that does not even plan or organized things properly? Well that is LUCT which is pretty much well known to the public but people just don’t know the inside of LUCT. Trust me, management there equally suck! Whoever works or had studied there will know their inside story. And I’m here to share part of it today.

I was suppose to attend the convocation in Singapore this coming October which is organized by Curtin University itself. I have been dealing with LUCT on how am I suppose to go about it and I was told that Curtin would send the grad pack in August. Pretty much obvious it is nearly to the end of the month and I didn’t get any feedbacks from LUCT. So I decided to just email this person in charge from Curtin Uni to know more bout it. But instead I got back a real fcuk up reply. I mean the lady was nice with her assistance on explaining to me just that the information I got to knew was a real pain in the ass. I was told from Curtin that they had not received any paper work from LUCT to complete my study plan. And I was also told that I did not fulfill my credits which was suppose to be 600 credits for a degree and apparently I just have 500 credits for now. Hence, because of all this Curtin could not do anything until LUCT has updated everything. Having said that, I can’t even attend the convocation in Singapore because the date of the submitting the forms has closed. I was told to attend the one next year but the dates are yet to be confirmed. Sigh.

My reaction was: pissed. fcuk up.

So basically LUCT haven’t been doing their job, have they? How can such a huge organization just get things screwed up? This is so unbelievable. Utter rubbish. Could you just imagine if I never emailed that person from Curtin Uni, Perth. I would have never known about all this shitty matters that is going on currently. Oh! Groans. I was so bloody well looking forward to graduate in Singapore. Now looks like it’s all gone down the drain. *pouts*

What’s worst is I have no choice but to attend the convocation organized by LUCT this Saturday in their bloody retarded looking hall of fame. I can't wait till next year to get a cert right, can I? And the amount we have to pay is a total rip off.

Gown: RM 150
Deposit: RM 300
Invited guest (max 2): RM80
Additional guest: RM100

The total I have to pay after counting off my deposit is RM410. That would also be a high tea after the ceremony and the food comes from our cafeteria, “Makanlah”. So you tell me don’t you think it’s a total rip off? First of all, Tan Sri bloody well owns the whole building and it just the retarded looking hall of fame that the ceremony is going to be held in. Why even bother charging us? He is just a bloody business man busy making money. That’s it. If it’s in a Hotel or something like what I had in Taylor’s’ I wouldn’t mind paying that price. Infact I think I paid lesser for the one in Taylor’s and it was held in Sheraton Hotel.

Ugh. Speaking of LUCT now just pissed me off. I shall end the topic here.

Just a note: Never ever recommend people to that Uni.

LimKokWing recently got what what corporate with another company and got himself in newspaper again lor... But hor, I have no idea what the heck taking a Diploma in Hair Stylish leh? Vegetable vegetable go outside any saloon learn a bit by a bit also got certificate lah... So what might happen after this...

Gosh... We are all family in LimKokWing hor... Don't play play us. And yes, our hair done by the trutly :) Nice eh? Now teenager mah, can lah, can lah... Play play only what?!

Hoi! I'm the man baby! Now I'm going to get myself a job, this hair style would maybe give confidence to my new boss about my creativity :D

And hell lah, later all fresh graduated student with weird weird hair style all come from LimKokWing one... By the way, some students were the "white mouse" for the hair subject. Though having free wash hair or dye hair, but then... Coming out like above also cannot blame lah...

The memo is in BM (national language), i guess international students don really understand what it is all about, i'll translate it then.

It is to inform you that starting from 10/9/05, all cashier are not allowed to accept any one ringgit coin from the customer due to the fact that the one ringgit coin will cease to be legal tender starting from 31/12/05 thru the instruction of BNM.
This is because if we accept the one ringgit coin, it will trouble the finance department in exchanging and depositing the one ringgit coin if there are any fake coin and the losses shall be bear by us.
and if you the staff accept any one ringgit coin, then you are to be responsible for any losses by the finance department.

Dear law abiding citizen, please call Bank National Malaysia at this number 03-26907442/ 26907417 to complain and I would suggest that everyone use up their one ringgit coin at makanlah and remember to take video with your digicam incase they refuse to accept as a proof. Remember my friends, use it up at Makanlah and not at the toll - happy munching.

Ok, let's start with web design. Even though I didn't do any web design nowadays, but I encourage all of you to design your own site, even if it's only HTML (No graphic). I've been developing website and designing website for past few years, so I'm not a so-called expert, but for some little tips I still can give out for you.

The most important aspect on webdesign is the way you compose your layout's boxes for example like main content box, navigation boxes, newsletter boxes and etc. The most simple one is something like this:

either the boxes will be in right side or left side or even both side. But then to have some eye-catchy website, you do need some small graphic. Not to have a heavy graphic website and never to have a heavy graphic website. There are lots of people still using 56K modem!

the small graphic I mean here might be something like these:

to make it easy to load when visitors coming to your site, save it in GIF format. Why must you use GIF format why not JPEG? The answer is quite surprising and truth. GIF load 4 images at one single time. Which will make your site load faster compare to JPEG. By saving GIF, you will limit the number of server calls, and your pages will load faster!

to avoid giving your site a cluttered feel to it, make sure to use white space between boxes and boxes or content and images. This will not only make your content easier to read, but will also make your site more attractive, and give it a balanced look and feel.

Makanlah Policy

Ok, here is another change for Makanlah policy. You pay RM5 first and you get your food without drinks and don't give a damn about your choice:

The first thing came into my mind was, how about mixed rice? We pay RM5 to get as much as we want? Neh... Usually, I take only one meat and one vegetable which enough to cost me a minimun of RM3.50 plus a drink I paid only RM5. But now, you pay RM5 without a drink and only can have 3 choices.

I thought only the petrol price raising, not food price raising huh? Or they are on the way preventing people to pay RM1 coin? And yes, they started to refuse RM1 coin now, which shame on them being a college that didn't even listen to the news in Malaysia.

Back to Makanlah again. I didn't eat there since they changed their policy of selling food from Tuesday if I'm correct. But my friend did ordered a mixed rice from the chinese corner which apparently not so nice to eat:

Its a shame to know that the head of architecture faculty - dato parid wardi actually sleep during somebody's architecture presentation, knowing that if we sleep infront of him during class would means death.

How's the 'university college' is doing? Any improvement on the environment? If yes, good for you guys. If otherwise, boo lkw.

I'll never know since I already dumped the place since February. And I've been working as a graphic designer ever since. Learned a lot of new stuff. Right now, I'm into 3d animation though I don't learn any of it from our 'university college'.

Working like this is ten times better learning experience compared to the nightmare I endured during my studies there. This just proves that everyone can be a respectable person even if they don't get any 'degree' certs.

I think that superimposing our 4th prime minister into the picture is an insult to him and the nation itself. Look carefully at the specs of Mahathir, and you will find that there is this white patch at the lens. If this picture is taken in real life, shouldnt it be transparent rather than white? And now take a look at the complexion, the lighting angle that reflected does not have any scientific logical explanation, it is totally distorted. There seems to be white patches going around mahathir hair, guess they are very lousy in photoshop. Now, take a look at both of mahathir and limkokwing shoulder, they seems to be distroted, kind of too cramp there.The original picture (without mahathir) is taken during mr.lim birthday party organize by our school em-bastard, sorry I mean ambassadors. Now, the propaganda team wants you to believe that mahathir actually attend his birthday party, and as if that is real hair on mr.lim head.

Journey
The journey to this campus started 14 years ago when I started to put plans on paper to develop a blueprint for an unconventional college, one that never existed before in this country. I am not sure if it does anywhere else.

Two years later, in 1992, our pioneer batch of 200 students came on board. That gave life to the plans, and momentum to the drive that has brought us here today.

Early last year we were granted university college status. Between 2001 and 2003, we received several Industry Excellence Awards from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Education and the leadership of various industries. All this while, our students themselves were breaking records in winning awards.

It does look like we have made some progress, but we are mindful that this is only the start to a journey that I hope will never end.

Arriving
As you drove up and this campus came into view, you would have sensed that this was no ordinary school building.

As you walked inside, you would have felt the energy and vibrancy of the place.

You would have seen our students, all excited by the occasion, all waiting for a celebration.

You would have walked through the Wings Plaza and past the Wings Café. You would have noticed the large murals, the hard-to-miss sculptures and trendy business outlets, which are actually our incubation units.

You are now in a ‘cool and happening campus’ - to borrow a phrase from the young ones.

We are creating a place where it is a pleasure to learn and where learning is a pleasure.

As you can see, everything has been meticulously designed and carefully art directed. Every piece of work is carefully curated. Nothing is unimportant, so nothing is left to chance.

This is a place where creativity is obvious and celebrated, where creativity is vigorously applied, demonstrated, learnt and practised every second, every minute, every hour of the day.

What you see and what you hear has been designed to stimulate and motivate.

Here, everyday, there is a sense of achievement, a sense of accomplishment. Here is a happy, inspiring place. Here is where style and substance come together.

To be sure, this is a place of learning and researching. MDTC or shall I call it MDIC (the new name), is all out going out to educate the young mind how be a business man, out to conquer the market with their creative mind. Tan Sri is giving us the tools to edge out students from other colleges, this really is very kind of him, but what I don get it is he talk so fondly of one must be creative and innovative, I cant find the creative and innovative he is talking about, his Tak Nak campaign is a flop, the inflasi zero campaing don’t seems to making any impact on the consumer market, same goes for the Rakan Muda program, which generate so much hype and publicity but just like all of his government project, they all die the dodo bird way. It makes me wonder if his Limkokwing Intergrated is so good, why didn’t they win any awards for so long? I mean real industry awards, not those awards given out by his own MDIC.

Limkokwing Intergrated is his advertising company, which owe their survival to government project. I still remember Pak Lah mention about opening up government project to every company, those that can produce result are awarded the projects, and the next day Lim Kok Wing was interviewed by The Star, he say he strongly oppose this idea because results cant be achieve if projects are open up. I thought MDTC is where he teaches students to be competitive and here he is saying something totally opposite. I don hate him personally but I think his way of doing business is very bad, coming to think of him calling this campus high tech and we must embrace the digital age, maybe I should register www.limkokwing-integrated.com, since he didn’t even bother to register it. Talking about embracing the internet age……… talking kok.

What Should I Do?

This blog is almost a month old and of course still surviving, thanks to all the wonderful contributors who take their time writing articles, wonderful articles that inspire the reader. I have been wondering for quite sometime. Recently I have added a forum, visitor can now comments on certain topics and there is a poll where you can vote on certain questionnaires. There is also a few new contributors, and of course more articles and headache for the big boss. Now, what I think what is missing from this blog is an artist, a person who can actually draw cartoon, it can be any cartoons, maybe someone among you could contribute some comic. The topic can be anything, as long as it touches arts and design. I hope there is a hero among you all (I am crossing my hands). Today Malaysia, tomorrow the world, watch out for Wings Coffee

It has been almost a months plus, and I have yet to try out the all new wings coffee. I am wondering how is the quality of the coffee is? A little bird told me that they have big dreams, they dream of bombarding Malaysia with their in-famous wings coffee. Now, make no mistake that I am no fan of his but I don mind paying 10 Ringgit for a cup of coffee as long as they provide quality coffee. Starbucks and other well known coffee outlet produce their own coffee, they all have their own secret recipe, this makes me wonder do wings coffees produce their own recipe or they simply just drop by at one of their rival outlet and pull out a packet of Starbucks coffee or worse come to worse, they buy all those 'Cap Ah kau' or 'Cap Guli-Guli' at our local hypermarket.

What kind of coffee are the students paying? 'Cap Guli-Guli' pulled out from the shelf of our local hypermarket? or Starbucks coffee? or Wings Coffee secret recipe. Those with who have been victimize and those with information please enlighten me with some good news.

The other thing I don really get it is their slogan, they claim that this is the place where creative mind from around the corner gather and have a sip of their coffee, it makes me wonder if me and my friends are not so creative compare to those who drank the Wings Coffee? From my point of view, a person who drinks and actually love hanging at that place is just a bunch of people who loves attentions. Shall I say they think it is cool and people will start worshiping them for they are rich? If you are one of them, sorry for offending you guys and gal, but that is just my 5 cents thoughts, you can always post your comments and opinions.

University College or a TUITION CENTRE?

The new campus in Cyberjaya has been a BIG disappointment for most of the students. This so-called hi-tech campus does not offer any new facilities, what more to say hi-tech as indicated by them. Most of these facilities are the equivalent with those of the old campus. So, what has improved with the campus? Nothing!! The new campus is just a new block of building which is covered with a big giant banner (largest banner it seems) to screen all the defects from the public eye. Its just a ploy by Tan Sri and his loyal servants to generate such an unconvincing idea with all the media hype surrounding him and him alone. What do you guys think of the new building? I think that it’s just a larger version of the old campus plus a profit making car park. For instance, just have a glance at the library; oops, should I say the most spacious library! Collection of books in the library has been unchanged for ages and not updated; Tables and chairs remained the same old junk from the old campus. Well, well, what can I say more? Heaps! And now to the classrooms and lecture theatre; countless scratches on the drafting tables which were never replaced, same old chairs, plug points and whiteboards which are not placed at a suitable position in the classes and etc... Generally, the classrooms are just not conducive for studies and very user/lecture unfriendly. Now, we know what Tan Sri thinks of world class facilities. Next, the lecture theatres; what can I say about these so-called additional facilities for the beneficial of the students? You guys must have utilized them and have your own thoughts, but if you don’t, just take a look and compare the theatres with the ones available in other universities or colleges.

Well, are you guys familiar with the clubs and societies in college? A student council once told me that since we have shifted to the new campus, the organization of these clubs will be done in a better manner and the college will give their fullest support. Yes, we can see many more clubs listed now but are they really up and going. For example, we shall take a look at the badminton club. Many ideas were brain stormed during their meeting and one of them was to have a weekly training session in a hall nearby partially subsidized by the college. The idea was brought forward to the management and look at what they provided these players with; an open-air badminton court! I guess the management did not think that a windy place like Cyberjaya would affect the flight of the shuttle. Kudos to the management!! After a few weeks, a little bird informed me that the college had requested that the players participate in the inter-college badminton tournament. How do you think that these players who are required to train in the absurd facility provided by the college compete with those of the other colleges which also comprise of ex and national players? You must have thought that the college would subsidize the entry fee and additional cost, well you are wrong! The colleges strategies are just not align to the government’s policy of supporting co-curricular activities. I can still go on and on about the dire state of the college but every good thing must come to and end.

Launching of MDTC by Abdullah Badawi

Our prime minister Abdullah Badawi is coming to launch the newly build campus on 11th october, 3:30. As you can see, the college is using his old tricks again, this time he is commanding his staffs and lecturers to make sure his students gather out side under the hot sun and in the place at all floors to greet the prime minister. My lecturers told me that attendents will be taken at the plaza and those who fail to show up shall pay a fine of fine (rumours that its 5 ringgit penalty or no attendance)

Our parents send us here to study, not to help him suck up big time on people. You do notice that the school complete some batik drawings, this is because badawi wife loves batik.

I do respect our prime minister, but I do hope that those who have classes on that day should not attend, education is important! Canceling our class just for the sake of his own reputation isn't a very good move.

What kind of Art and Design Tution Center Is This? Superimposing?

Have you come across photos that have been super imposed? If your answer is no then I would assume you have amnesia or you are one of them. How about pictures of UFO or those ghost images? How about limkokwings publication? Is there and why they are doing it? Now, they want you to believe in their non-sense, wait a minute, non-sense is too soft a word and I think the right word would be their propaganda and obsess to be under the spot light.

Take a look at the picture I have uploaded. The cap worn by Hishammudin, now take a closer look and see carefully, the limkokwing college logo has been superimposed into the picture at his cap so that to look as if he is wearing a cap with the real limkokwing logo, the college propaganda team has done a very lousy job, this is an art and design college, things like this should be done professionally. These people want the whole world to think that they have the most spacious; sorry I mean the biggest design library in Cyberjaya, oppps I mean Malaysia (actually UiTM art and design faculty has the biggest). Outstanding Fees of 50 cent!

If you don pay your school fees, you dont get your results! That is the rules in Limkokwing University College. During last semester break, me and my friends waited for our school results, and waited for the whole month. When semester start, we are told that we have yet to pay our school fees, did the bank make a mistake? I double check with my mom and they have cleared the check. Now is it my fault? I dont think so. The bursary and financial sign the receipt stating that I have paid my school fees at the beginning of semester. Upon checking with the finance department, we are not issued our results slip due to outstanding bill of only 50 cent. That is not my mistake, the computer printed the amount my mother should pen down on the check and she did exactly that. Come on! It is just only 50 cent!

Here I really wanted to sound out for quite sometimes already. As known, people kept on blaming Tan Sri for the payment problems, student services problems, facilities problems. Well, please forget abour facilites problem first [ As I don't know much about the "inside" :P ]

First, let's talk about payment! This is money stuff, so I guess it would attract most of the people around here :) See, people kept on blaming that the tuition fees were too high / expensive. Here I wanted to say, Why don't you go and do a research on others colleges? Here I did it! Okay I know that I'm dumb enough to do so, but hey, I got this conclusion some how :) There are just about the same, dude, you have to know you're in PRIVATE college, not GOVERMENT college. Please understand the difference between them. As I see [ About four college ] the tuition fee per year reach 10K and more like what we're paying now. What are you argueing about here huh? I'm just so curious about it... Go out and do a research on all the PRIVATE colleges! PLEASE and stop using those "F" word here.

Secondly, about the Student Services. Quite interesting for me as some stuffs just so attract me [ Okay! Stop kidding :P ]. What I know from the internet, forums, comments were, why they work so slow? When my deposite will be back? After those sentences, they continue with another sentence sound like "What the "F" [ Or something similar ] LimKokWing doing?" Huh? Does this related to Tan Sri? Or you're blaming the college? Either one are incorrect action. Why? Cause Student Service's stuffs are the one who you should blaming. Not Tan Sri nor the College. Think twice before you do anything, please! It's for your own good and future.

P/S: I know my post here could make me goes to Heaven [ I prefer Heaven :P ] but I still have to, cause those comments are annoying... Don't you think so?

I’ve come across this wonderful website design by our own college’s product design students for their class. It’s has lots of works done by them, nice and beautiful works. From what I’ve read, they are coming up with their own class T-shirt. The website was designed as a community forum for students by students and is in no way affiliated to the management of Limkokwing and definitely not this blog.

LUCT - Fast at receiving money but slow (as hell) for refunds...

Last semester, I stayed at one of the accomodation in Puchong provided by yours truly.

Now I already moved out and I used the (crappy) bus service provided from home. I already ask the student service for refund of 2 months deposit while I stayed there.

Guess what? I have to wait for almost a month to get an answer from them. Then, I go on postal. They sent me to the finance dept for the money and they gave various reasons for it like "the requested batch lost, still haven't approved yet" and other lame excuses. Now, another month has passed. The last time I went there they said the money will be ready by next week. They better before I get ticked off and thrashed the whole finance dept.

WHY IS SO F***KING HARD TO REFUND A FEW HUNDRED BUCKS? Huh? Huh?

Badminton and Clubs in College

Our art and design college now provides us with an open air badminton court; did I say open air badminton court? Yes and what kind of facilities is this? Personally as a art and design college, I think it should be a skate boarding arena where more people can be involve and its cool to look at people playing skate boards. Don’t you think it is a waste having such a big area just for 2-4 people? Activities such as Skate Boarding, extreme bike, and futsal can accommodate more people. Back to the badminton court issue; the worst part is that it’s open air, where your chance of winning is not only determined by your mentality and physicality, but also the wind velocity. I don’t blame them as for these people never even hold a racket before, let alone play any of these “common people’s” game. Guess they are so creative and innovative that they never thought of this.

A little bird from the animation department told me that recently there is an inter-college badminton competition organizes by Monash University. Based on the info provide by other badminton club in their colleges, they are being fully sponsor to play for the college. Help College even provides a coach to train their student. Is our school badminton club asking for a coach? I don think so! As we all know, due to our college financial budget, they refuses to sponsor our very own college team for the competition. Is that too much to ask? Just RM500 plus for the entrance for the whole team, the team is not even asking for transportation or food or anything, just RM500. Come on!

Talking "Kok"

I noticed recently that the LimKokWing Institute of Creative Technology had changed its name to the LimKokWing University College of Creative Technology (LUCCT). Besides not understanding what a "University College" is, I am also perplexed why the Ministry of Education has allowed Lim Kok Wing to mislead the public with its logo.

A quick glance at the logo would lead you to assume that the name of the institution is "LimKokWing University". Surely the self-proclaimed media strategist realises that truth in advertising is essential in establishing the credibility of the product that you are flogging. To give less prominence to the word "college" in his logo is like asking people to believe that it really is his real hair on his head. To be clear and truthful, the institution's logo must show that LUCCT is a "University College" (whatever that means) and not a University.

By allowing Tan Sri Lim to use his name for his so-called University, the government has enabled him to join the ranks of a very select elite. Only the late Tun Razak, Tunku Abdul Rahman and Sultan Idris have been honored by having a University named after them. Personally, I think LimKokWing Institute of Creative Technology is a mouthful and should have instead been named "Guli Guli Uni" in honor of the cartoon strip which gave Tan Sri Lim his big break into the creative arts.

Lim Kok Wing's success is a testament to the Malaysian Dream. That by joining IBM you can make it big. No, I don't mean IBM as in the computer company, I mean "Ikut Bontot Mahathir". Well you can't blame him, a lot of Malaysian tycoons do exactly the same thing. I suppose you do need to get noticed in order to be given the opportunities to win government contracts.

I hear the latest project to be awarded to Tan Sri Lim will be the contract to supply the uniforms for the soon to be drafted National Servicemen. I suppose that after doing the media campaign to promote the failure that was the Rakan Muda programme, it is only fitting more money be spent on securing his services. I do hope that Tan Sri Lim will be able to come up with better uniforms than that used by the Fire and Rescue services. I think someone forgot to tell them that camouflage is meant to conceal. Bright orange camouflage. Isn't that a contradiction?

Dr Mahathir's Image Maker Has an Image Problem

WHO ORGANISED THE KUALA LUMPUR WORLD Peace Conference, which ends its inaugural two-day session today, 10 August 2003? Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing. Who is its chief sponsor, The Limkokwing University College of Creative Technology? Who got the inaugural award for fostering world peace? President Jacques Chirac of France. Why? The LUCCT wants to open a Paris campus as part of Tan Sri Lim's grand scheme to bring kulture to the cultured Parisians. He believes in his own rubbish: that without any basis, Malaysia and Malaysians can take on the world. The Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Mahathir Mohamed, was on hand to grace the occasion.

What he said did not matter. But he would not miss a trick to be present when his favourite cronies have a bash. He relies on this former cartoonist so much that he does not often think through on his spin doctor's regular fix, and causes more problems than he realises for the nation he leads. His greatest failing, in 22 years as Prime Minister, is his inability to choose good men to do his bidding.

Take one case in point. The National Economic Action Council placed a series of high profile advertisements in Malaysia and regional papers to press its case with Singapore for an economic rate for the water it supplies. As the two countries exchanged insults, in a typical tit-for-tat reaction, there appeared in the New Straits Times on 01 July 2003, a seemingly reasoned and well-argued article on how bilteral ties could be improved. The writer of that article? Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing. He would not written that article off his own bat. He could not even have written it. And the New Straits Times is not about to print an article of this importance from a man who in the past has shown no interest in issues like this, unless it brings him lots of money. And he would not lend his name to it unless Dr Mahathir wants him to.

That it appeared in a Malaysian newspaper led many in Singapore to believe Malaysia has at last seen reason. There was no such thing. Shortly after, the advertisements ran. The NEAC had no role in it. It was ordered to run the advertisements on behalf of the Government of Malaysia. It was thought it came from a Malaysian think tank. It came from the fertile money-making brain of Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, who is believed to have made hundreds of thousands of ringgit in fees over this campaign alone. Where he slipped up was that when a Malay view on the crisis was what the Malaysian government wanted, it is a Malaysian Chinese who represented the Malay view. But to him his conscience is clear: if there is money to be made, especially when it is given him on a platter, and he can be regularly photographed with the Prime Minister, who is he to reject it?

Dr Mahathir relies on him much. When the former MCA president, Dato' Seri Ling Liong Sik, refused to step down and threw the party into a crisis, Dr Mahathir called on Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing to be the mediator. The man has no political sense or even an understanding of issues, but does that matter? A Prime Ministerial mediator needs to be infused in self-importance, of which he has aplenty, and pass the message. Nothing else is needed. His office-boy could have done a better job. But it shows how important Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing has come to be at this time to Dr Mahathir. It was to him Dr Mahathir called to prepare the posters and election material for the first general election in South Africa which ushered in majority rule.

For one with such close ties to Dr Mahathir, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing is an insecure man. He rushes hither and thither to be at any function Dr Mahathir is present. Sometimes, this penchant of his can border on the ludicrous: a prominent Malaysian was celebrating his 81st birthday to which Dr Mahathir was invited. Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing would not attend if Dr Mahathir was not; in the end, he did not. Dr Mahathir, as gracious as ever, had sent in his apologies but sent a handsome present, and later met him privately in his office. He needs to reassure himself he is who he believes he is. But like most cronies, his success is dependent on regular infusionsn from the gravy train. But that must stop on 01 November 2003, when his cronydom must come to an inevitable end. He comes up with creative ideas to further his own future, the latest being the Kuala Lumpur World Peace Conference.

So, who is Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing? He ran an advertising agency in the 1970s, when I first met him. He earned his 15 minutes of fame with the "Guli Guli" cartoons he churned out before he abandoned it as crony fame beckoned. Like all cronies of the Establishment, he has made little or no success of anything he ventured into, and succeeds only with regular projects to keep afloat. He started the Limkokwing Institute, the tuition centres Malaysia became famous for, by preparing students for degrees and diplomas from overseas universities. It is this institute which is not the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology. He deludes himself, and others, into believing he runs a university and advertises boldly it is the LimkokWing University and in lighter type below "College of Creative Technology".

He is the owner of the Malaysian Design and Technology Centre (MDTC) in Cyberjaya. It should have gone to the UiTM School of Art and Design, but when you have friends in high places, does proficiency and integrity matter? Today, he does not want to talk about it. It flounders. He is the first man allowed to have a personal name to his University College. But he wants all to believe he runs a university, and it is often referred to, and advertised, as the University of Limkokwing. He is given these special privileges because he is the image maker for Dr Mahathir and the Malaysian Government. Which probably accounts for the terrible image problem both have.

He does not miss a trick to project himself to the media and the public at large. If he is involved in a project, you can bet he is behind it. He co-ordinate UMNO Youth's "Malaysians for Peace" movement which has died a natural death after the US-Iraq war. Similarly, he concocted the now discredited Rakan Muda programme, which earned him tens of millions of ringgit in fees. The programme, like many of his brilliant, has gone the way of the dodo bird. But he has failed in his most ambitious project: to ensure Dr Mahathir would continue to be Prime Minister so long as he needs to earn a living as a crony. That is a forlorn hope, as crazy as every one of his "brilliant" ideas to make Malaysia look tall. All it shows is how much problems he has brought Malaysia. But then cronies are meant to do that. In that he succeeded brilliantly.

An Interview With Ken Yeang

A little bird email me an interview letter from Ken Yeang, the architect behind many successful projects such as Machine Niaga Tower, Menara UMNO and of course our Limkokwing campus. In the letter, she ask what’s his feeling toward the newly constructed campus that is not according to the initial blue print, which has been financially cut down. The letter goes:

Thanks for your letter.I have just been informed informally by a representative of the Government that the University is a bench mark building in Cyberjaya because it is thethe cheapest building built thre. The Good Old Days

Here is a letter from one of our alumni, where he is from the very good old day, somewhere during the Stone Age. He is one of the pioneers and at that time the campus is located in Sungai Wang and Imbi. Here is the story:

My days in LICT were way back. In those days, we have LICT Imbi and LICT Tun Razak. Why is it separated? Well, that because the Imbi campus is simply not big enough to accommodate all of us. Now I'll share my part of the story... LICT Imbi was the best campus, simply because we were strategically located in the Golden Triangle. Lunch time we have verities of 'chap farn' and mamak food. If we want something more expensive...there's always LOT 10 and Sungai Wang. After lunch, we always make time for snooker and video games. We were 'stored' in containers! Yep...no kidding...I said containers! That's because our classroom aka cabin was actually those container you usually see at some construction site. Fitted with 2 lousy air cons which often breaks down... which instantaneously transform the classroom into an oven! But luckily as we move on to become seniors, we moved into the White Bungalow~~ woo hoo. It's old but it's definitely so much better than those goddamn 'ovens'. As juniors, we used to wonder why there are joss sticks in front of the classroom...but when we turned seniors, we found out why....we were not actually alone :) But it gets pretty normal once we got comfortable in that building. Back then, we only have ONE computer room filled with Apple LC II. If you own a 90mhz Power Mac with scanner and colour printer back then...you are our GOD. We also have one photo studio and lab... oh boy. Having to share one darkroom with 2 classes was no joke. The cafeteria is for dining, smoking, chilling, sleeping and most of the time, our extra classroom. (It’s too bloody hot in those 'ovens') But I had my fond memories too. Ample parking space...if only you're in campus at 7am....cooling environment...lots of big trees to chill and sometimes to catch some Zs... But best of all...we have plenty of rooms for skateboarding and inline skating. Lecturers are cool but I still think Akif is the best! Akif rox!!

Picasso tried to capture the 3D quality into 2D

What is art? What is design? Can someone please explain it to me? If you are able to put it in words, then it is nor art and designs anymore. It’s abstract and it depends on the persons feeling to judge, and the lecturers are never always correct. I always get low marks and don know why, if my marks can be abstractly explain, wouldn’t it be interesting? Usually I copy my homework from the internet and reedit it. I believe lots of student is doing this, but do be careful, lecturers today are not born yesterday with an age of 1 day old. Quote from famous people:

Attack of The Gay and Lesbian

How will your parents react knowing that you are gay or lesbian?

I have been noticing that there are a lot of gays and lesbian in our school, once I saw both guys hugging each other at the old campus, one sitting on another’s laps. The other time was also in the old campus in Mayang, I saw two girls kissing each other, and hugging. What is wrong with them? Did god make a mistake? Why are there so many students and lecturers turning to the opposite sex? Looking at them make me feel sick! Please share some of your opinion and experience in college about them! Starbucks was suppose to move into MDTC, but somehow they did not, seems that they have some disagreement with the management. Its been quite a few months now that they have operate, and I wonder is their business profitable? I've yet to try their coffee and i've been wondering what's the taste. is it worth the ten ringgit the students paying? Please give some comments for those who have already tried.
